The growth process can be difficult for some children due to the amount of emotion they must handle. Bach flower remedies provide a natural and safe support for these stages of development. They are a wonderful aid when children are dealing with everyday fears, daydreaming, self-esteem, worries, sadness, self-acceptance, school issues, etc. The remedies will not alter the basic character of a child, but instead, bring about a return to equilibrium when a child is upset or unsettled.

The Consultation:

Consultations are usually between 45min and 1 hour. The parent is present during the consultation. To determine which flower remedy to use for young children, it is preferable to observe their behaviours. How does he/she play? Is he/she bothered when a game doesn’t turn out as she wished? Does he/she lose interest easily? Does she throw things? etc. This is done during the consultation using activities such as colour, chess, etc.  These types of questions will guide us to where the child is, and we can then prepare a formula. Guidance is provided on taking the remedy.  A follow on consultation is scheduled. The number of consultations will depend on the child.

The Co-ordination & Massage for Dyslexia program was developed for children and adults through the Axelson's Institute in Sweden. It is suitable for children from the age of 5 years upwards. The Axelson's techniques are based on a combined programme of physical exercises and massage (fully clothed) given to individual children during one-hour sessions over 12 weeks.

The program is designed to be of benefit in the treatment of other learning difficulties that come under the umbrella of Dyslexia and share common symptoms that appear as poor physical coordination, poor visual processing skills and anxiousness. Some of these may be Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Poor Memory and Concentration, Low Self-Esteem, to name a few.

How does it work:

When children struggle with focus, behaviour or sensory processing, it can be linked to weak connections across different regions in the brain. The brain and behaviours can change when we strengthen and build new brain connections. A series of exercises are used to activate Fine Motor skills, Gross motor skills, voluntary eye movement, hand-to-eye coordination. The exercises are targeted at stimulating different groups of muscles that are involved in the learning process and need to be coordinated in response to those needed for functioning.

In the weekly sessions, the child is asked to try to do different exercises.  These exercises are provided for home practice to be done every day. Some mindfulness techniques are provided to help with the challenges that may be faced in daily life. At the end of each session, a short massage is given to help bring some calm and build self-esteem. Most children find the programme both fun and challenging.
